The Aftermath

And so dominance must come to an end. In the championship game, The Cougars were taken down by the Master Batters...after a close and hard-fought game. A routine fly ball with 2 outs in the top of the 7th inning should have sealed the deal, but the ball was bobbled by The Cougars, and it allowed the inning to stay alive and for the Master Batters to claim victory 21-17. Co-Captain Chaz Teets had an eventful evening in the outfield, making one good and one ugly play. The good play was a snowcone catch of a flyball off the bat of Josh Auville, which was the 3rd out of the inning, which resulted in much cheering from the Cougars team and attending fans, as it was Teets' first game in the outfield, but at 6'2" and at the time weighing 230lbs, showed why he wasn't suited to the outfield. The second play was a fly ball in the top of the 7th after the game-clinching out was bobbled. The ball was hit high off the bat and outfielders Matt Coen and Teets both rushed to the ball, neither one calling for it. It resulted in a nasty and violent collision in the outfield, accompanied by a gasp of horror from the fans. Teets was uninjured and never fell to the ground, however, Coen was already in a slide and his head hit Teets' thigh at full speed with a sickening "thud." Coen laid flat on the ground for some time regaining his composure, and thankfully was not seriously injured.

Fast forward to fall 2008. Due to the success of the inaugural intramural softball season, PSC has announced a fall season. The Cougars star player and captain Nathan Delawder is no longer attending school, neither is Bryan Edwards, who is in the State Police Academy. The only remaining players from the spring 2008 Cougars team are Josh Kesner and Chaz Teets, both of whom have been signed, ironically, to the very team that defeated them in the Championship game, the Master Batters. Kesner has been signed to play SS/2B, while Teets has been signed to play Catcher.

Updates on the former Cougars stars will be forthcoming as the Fall 2008 season gets underway.
