Season Opener Goes As Expected

The 2008 Potomac State College intramural softball season opener for the Cougars happened on Wednesday, April 9th. Facing the RA's, the Cougars struck with force and unbridled talent, dominating the opposing team and winning 26-6. Pitching for the Cougars was Matt Woods, who did well, although the Cougars are going to have to get him a better glove, as he had a tough time handling a few balls. Team captain Nathan Delawder proved why East Hardy was so good in 2006, as he stroked 2 home runs in the game. Matt Coen also hit two homers in the game, and Josh Kesner delivered a grand salomi. Co-Captain Chaz Teets went 3-4 with 2 RBIs, a 2B, and 3 R. The entire lineup delivered hit after hit, jumping out to an early 18-0 lead before relaxing the ropes a little, allowing the opposing teams to score 6 runs in one inning. The Cougars revved it up again in the 5th inning, scoring until the mercy rule was called when the score reached 26-6. Summer softball pro Bryan Edwards had several good hits, although popping a few up after trying to crush them. Darrell Wright and Andy Wayne laced screaming line drives the entire game. Calen Ketterman and Matt Woods also had hits. Due to the good sportmanship on both sides, the Cougars and RA's played the 6th inning, even though the game was already statistically over. The Cougars showed great poise at the plate, with the exception of the one time that co-captain Teets swung and fouled off a ball, while corkscrewing himself into the ground, much to the amusement of the teams and fans. On the next pitch Teets regained composure and wacked a single to the outfield.

The Cougars' next game is this Sunday evening vs. Baltimore's Best.
